Beethoven : Three of the five Cello Sonatas
Beethoven : Variations on arias from "The Magic Flute"
Long time musical partners Robin Michael and Daniel Tong return to Inverness to reprise the highly successful pair of concerts they performed back in 2012, playing three of Beethoven's magnificent cello sonatas on the Thursday evening in Inverness Town House, followed by the other two at lunchtime the following day for At One With Music, but this time the Friday lunchtime is in Inverness Old High Church.
This concert is part of the musicinverness contribution to the worldwide commemoration of the 250th anniversary of Beethoven's birth on 16th December 1770. Robin and Daniel have recently recorded this programme on period instruments and the double CD on Resonus Classics was released in January 2020 to critical acclaim.
Robin Michael studied at the Royal Academy of Music with David Strange and Colin Carr and later with Ferenc Rados. He is principal cellist in Orchestre Revolutionnaire et Romantique, Solo cellist with Orchestre Les Siecles (Paris) as well as regular guest principal cellist with the Australian Chamber Orchestra, Scottish Chamber Orchestra, BBC National Orchestra of Wales, Royal Northern Sinfonia, Irish Chamber Orchestra, Britten Sinfonia, RTE Concert Orchestra, English Baroque Soloists, English National Opera and Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment.
Daniel Tong was born in Cornwall and studied in London. His musical life is spent performing as soloist and chamber musician, as well as directing two chamber music festivals in the Wye Valley and at Winchester. He has appeared at many of the foremost British venues and festivals – Wigmore Hall, South Bank Centre, St Georges Bristol, Birmingham Town Hall, Queen’s Hall, Edinburgh as well as the Cheltenham, Aldeburgh and Edinburgh Festivals.
Robin and Daniel are co-Artistic Directors of the Kinnordy Chamber Music Festival held annually at Kinnordy House near Kirriemuir.
